As The Show Flowerpot Tumbles Ever Closer to the Broadcast Floor

Right. So I had mentioned I wanted to talk more about my last show when I got the chance. I have the chance now. But I’ve changed my mind about wanting to.

Basically, I was exhausted, which is slightly indefensible given the fact I just got off Fall Study [sic] Break. However, most of the things I had planned  for the show didn’t happen. I got caught only picking discs from the Jazz rack that were at or near eye level. I played a few songs I meant to play as parts of sets in later shows. My interview with Margaret Thatcher had to be scrapped. And at one point I forgot to turn my mic on, leaving the world with bad Garageband funk for about 2 minutes. Luckily someone called in and requested that, so I was let off the hook by circumstance.

Freeform.

Basically, I messed up this show and messed up a few to come.   But that hardly matters now.  It hardly mattered then.  Who the fuck listens to College Radio at 3AM?

None of that is salient at the moment. What matters is that it all happens again this week.  As far as this coming show goes, there is a lot that needs to be said. I’ll save most of it for the show itself, but one thing has been haranguing my respect for the world for over a day now. Try and guess what this is:

1. SUN RA(205)
2. JOHNNY CASH(76)
3. BRUCE HAACK(63)
4. THE BEATLES(58)
5. TOM WAITS(57)
6. FRANK ZAPPA(56)
7. BRIAN ENO(56)
8. HIS NAME IS ALIVE(54)
9. DAVID BOWIE(52)
10. JOHN COLTRANE(51)

If you went with “The Ordered and Numbered List of WCBN DJs’ Greatest Mistakes,” you’d be right. I don’t know who any of these bands or people are, and I suspect no one else really does either. That’s not the biggest problem though. Look through that list again. Now do it again. See? You can do it two dozen times and Andrew W.K. still won’t show up.

That will be fixed this week.
